Oral Immunotherapy

Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) Tablets

This is a daily tablet taken to cure allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma, that is triggered by house dust mites.

It works by boosting your immune system’s tolerance towards the house dust mites and in turn, minimizes your allergy symptoms as time goes. This treatment is often used in adults suffering from allergic rhinitis and asthma, as well as adolescents with allergic rhinitis.

On most occasions, doctors prescribe these SLIT tablets to individuals whose allergy symptoms are not manageable through drugs such as antihistamine tablets. These tablets are usually consumed by placing them underneath the tongue.

Tablet that seamlessly dissolves in the mouth

Once the tablet is put under the tongue, it will start to dissolve immediately. These sublingual tablets offer a simple and faster way for patients to take their immunotherapy medication at the comfort of their home, work, or on the go. This gives you the much-needed peace of mind, knowing that you can easily incorporate your medication into your busy schedule.

These tablets can be stored at room temperature; you can easily keep them at home. You can also travel with them if need be. Just keep the tablet blister pack inside the box and store it in a cool and dry place at room temperature, not more than 30 degrees Celsius. Also, you need to ensure that the tablets are out of children’s reach.

How does this medication work?

The oral immunotherapy tablet functions by altering your body’s reaction towards house dust mite allergens, gradually reducing and eliminating your allergic symptoms. As opposed to other medications that only temporarily relieves your symptoms, oral immunotherapy tablets must be taken every day for at least a few months to show significant results. The advantage is that even after you stop using the tablets, you will continue to see its benefits.

Any potential side effects associated with these tablets?

Bearing in mind that these tablets are filled with the house dust mite extract that you are allergic to, there is a chance you may experience some side effects, particularly in your throat or mouth. Thankfully, these are mild symptoms that usually decreases with time.

The doctor will always administer the first tablet under close supervision and continue to monitor your situation for at least half an hour. This is to enable you to identify, discuss, and manage any noticed side effects.

These are some of the most effective and preferred allergy treatment options.

As we previously mentioned, your best choice for treatment will mostly depend on your allergy symptoms as well as preference.
